The Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Jeff Radebe delivered the keynote address at the KwaZulu- Natal (KZN) Growth Coalition Executive Liaison Workshop banquet held at Fairmont Zimbali Resort on 24, November 2016.
The Growth and Coalition Liaison campaign spearheaded by the KZN provincial government is described as an effective liaison platform for leaders in business and government to promote social economic development.
Minister Rabebe also interacted with the leadership of the provincial government on the National Development Plan (NDP) and its interface with the KZN Provincial Growth and Development Strategy.
In his address at the banquet, Radebe said, “the KZN Provincial Growth and Development Strategy (PGDS) is one of the most powerful instruments that aid the accelerated implementation of the NDP at provincial level. The vision of the PGDS resonates with the society that we envision by 2030.”
Radebe’s speech also addressed the impact on the Oceans Economy for the province and how it will stimulate growth and create jobs by 2033. He also spoke on interventions for socio- economic development, tourism and addressing youth unemployment as catalytic interventions to realising the goals envisioned in the NDP and PGDS.
The workshop was also held to strengthen collaboration and partnerships amongst the various social partners, especially business, civil society, state owned enterprises and the provincial level.
In conclusion, Radebe said, “the nexus between government, civil society and business is a potent combination that can create a more dynamic, inclusive and thriving economic environment.
The realisation of all these ambitions takes hard work, unity of purpose and visionary leadership. I am confident that the KwaZulu-Natal Growth Coalition has got what it takes to take us to Vision 2030.”
