MINISTER RADEBE TO HOST IMBIZO ON 30 DAYS PAYMENT

The Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Jeff Radebe will host an Imbizo on 30 days payment which is a government intervention to fast-track the payment of suppliers.
The Imbizo will serve as an opportunity for the Minister to make an appeal to service providers to assist in ensuring that government departments pay them within the stipulated 30 days period.  Payment of service providers or suppliers within 30-days is a key priority that has been monitored by government since 2009. Since 2014, the current administration has included a requirement for all Directors-General (DGs) to report to the Forum of South African Directors-General (FOSAD) on the timeous payment of suppliers. Outcome 12 Chapter of the 2014-2019 MTSF also reports, amongst others, on the performance of departments regarding compliance with 30 days payment of invoices.
A special Unit has been established within DPME and works in a trilateral partnership with National Treasury and DPSA. The mandate of the Special Unit includes investigating cases where there is late or non-payment of legitimate invoices within 30 days, identify the causes for delays and non-payment in aforementioned cases, facilitate the process for instituting misconduct proceedings to ensure that there are consequences for late and non-payment of legitimate invoices and support /intervene in cases of continuous non- compliance.
Private sector will also be encouraged to commit itself, working side by side with organized labour and government, to realise the objectives of the NDP Vision 2030 and by extension the various values of a better life for all as enshrined in the Constitution. This is in line with the core priorities of the National Development Plan to reduce poverty, unemployment and inequality. The public will also be mobilised to define their ideal South Africa and to play a pivotal role in assisting government towards achieving vision 2030 at the Imbizo.
