The purpose of the visit is to monitor the implementation of the Operation Phakisa for schools aimed at introducing ICT into the school curriculum.
Through the Operation Phakisa ICT in education, technology is used to support administration, teaching and learning in schools. The model developed by the Malaysian government to fast-track economic growth.
Operation Phakisa model was launched by President Jacob Zuma to transform teaching and learning through the appropriate use of Information Communication Technology.
The visits by the Deputy Ministers is to ensure monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and accountability frameworks for the programme which are essential for the successful implementation of Operation Phakisa. The visit to the Northern Cape will be the third of the monitoring visits by Deputy Minister Manamela and Surty. Other visits were to Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape.
Facilities to be visited include Carlton Van Heerden High School, Vooruitsigstraat, Upington, Rosendal Primary/Primêre School/Skool, Arbo Rose Street, Upington and Siyanda teacher and ICT resource centre.
