Dumelang, Thiboloha School community.
Principal, educators, parents, caregivers, distinguished guests, and most importantly, our beautiful and talented learners of Thiboloha School: dumelang.
It is a great honour and privilege to be with you today. We are proud of every learner at this school. We are proud of your courage, your determination, your creativity and the effort you make each day. You remind us that ability is not defined by limitation, but by the strength, potential and dreams that live within every person.
Nelson Mandela once said: “Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth, those who care for and protect our people.”
These words remain deeply relevant today. Children and young people are central to our shared goal of building a nation that works for all. They are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are leaders, innovators and contributors today. Every child deserves to learn, to grow, to participate fully in society and to dream without fear that their circumstances will determine their future.
Our country, under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa, is hard at work to address the devastating challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality. These challenges affect families, communities and schools across our country. They require all of us—government, educators, parents, businesses, civil society and communities—to work together with purpose and compassion.
We recognise the important work being done by Thiboloha School in supporting learners with diverse needs. We also acknowledge the challenges that have been raised by the principal. These include the need for an occupational therapist; a centre to support autistic learners; a fully equipped science laboratory; the renovation of the swimming pool; assistive devices for learners; mini-buses for scholar transport; a skills workshop facility; and improved infrastructure and equipment for visually impaired learners.
These are not simply requests for buildings, equipment or services. They are calls for dignity, inclusion, access and opportunity. They are essential investments in the future of our children.
President Ramaphosa has said: “We will not tolerate a situation where persons with disabilities are denied access to education.” This commitment must be reflected in the daily experience of every learner. Inclusive education means more than admitting a child into a classroom. It means creating an environment where each learner can participate, receive the support they need, develop their abilities and reach their full potential.
Government remains committed to enabling children with disabilities to attend school and to ensuring that schools are better equipped to accommodate their specific needs. We must ensure that learners have access to appropriate learning materials, assistive technology, professional support, safe transport and facilities that promote independence and participation.
We must also prepare our young people for life beyond the school gates. Education should equip learners with practical skills, confidence and opportunities to participate in the economy and their communities. A skills workshop, science facilities and specialised support can help learners discover their talents and prepare for meaningful futures.
To the educators and staff of Thiboloha School, we thank you for your commitment, patience and care. Your work changes lives. You do not only teach subjects; you build confidence, unlock potential and give hope to learners and their families.
To the parents and caregivers, thank you for your love, resilience and partnership. Your support is vital in helping our learners succeed.
And to our learners: believe in yourselves. Your voice matters. Your talents matter. Your future matters. Continue to learn, ask questions, work hard and support one another. South Africa needs your ideas, your courage and your contribution.
Together, let us build a school environment where every learner is seen, supported, respected and empowered to thrive.
Ke a leboga. Thank you.
