October 2017.
v President Jacob Zuma will lead the commemoration in Mbizana in the
Eastern Cape on 27 October.
v President Jacob Zuma will unveil a statue of OR Tambo at the OR Tambo
International Airport on 19 October 2017.
v The SABC will flight a special documentary on the life of OR Tambo
during October.
v A new R5 coin commemorating the centenary of OR Tambo entered into
circulation from 1 October 2017

and legacy of OR Tambo.
v OR Tambo played a
pivotal role in the country’s struggle against apartheid.
v His stewardship of the
liberation movement galvanised world opinion against the apartheid.
v He played a pivotal role in ensuring our freedom, and was one of the
architects of the constitution.
v He laid the foundation for our sound relations with many countries all
over the world.
Working together we can
protect and build on OR’s legacy.
v Each sector of our society has a role to play in ensuring that we
protect and build on our freedom.
v It is up to this generation to ensure that we defeat the scourge of
poverty, inequality and unemployment.
v Let us join together to create a united and prosperous nation as he
intended.
