Honourable Mr Seiso Joel Mohai was a permanent delegate representing the Free State province in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) from 2014 - 2024. He joined the National Assembly after the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. He has an illustrious political career in the African National Congress, which is the governing party and government where he has served in various structures, including serving as the Free State Chief Whip from 2001 to 2004, Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works, Roads and Transport in 2004 to 2009, and MEC for Finance in 2009 to 2013.
Mr Mohai also chaired various portfolio, ad-hoc and administrative committees of the Free State Provincial Government, including the Governance, Administration, Security and International Affairs Cluster, Sub Committee on the Drafting of the Free State Growth and Development Strategy, Subcommittee on Mining Interventions, and the Subcommittee on African Peer Review Mechanism.
Mr Mohai was a Member of the National Assembly between 1999 to 2002, and again from 2013 to 2014. In 2014, he was elected as the chairperson of the Select Committee on Appropriations and co-chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee on Financial Management of Parliament. He was also designated as the Chairperson of the ANC Caucus in Parliament. Mr Mohai has served as a member of the ANC prior to its unbanning and after its unbanning. He is currently servicing as a Members of the Provincial Executive Committee 2022 to date. He served as a member of the Interim Leadership Committee between 2001 – 2004. He served in the Interim Provincial Committee between 2021 – 2022. He has been a member of the Provincial Executive Committee 1998 – 2001 and NEC of the ANC Youth League 1998 – 2001 after serving as an ex-officio and member of the ANCYL. Mr Mohai has also served in various strategic multilateral organisation such as Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, and Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF). Mr Mohai holds a Master of Science (MSC) Degree in Technology and Management and Post Graduate Diploma in Management of Technology and Innovation from The Da Vinci Institute: School of Business Leadership.
